Baby Shower Traditions

When planning a baby shower for your family or friends take into account the many baby shower traditions you can implement to make it an event that everyone will enjoy. Also, one that the Mother to be will remember.

Schedule the party in the early afternoon hours as this is a customary time to hold them. The most earliest showers were made into tea parties as well back in the Victorian era. So keep this in mind and maybe set up different beverages and finger foods that everyone loves. Don't forget one of the main ingredients though, the baby shower cake for the Mother herself.

The shower is usually held within the last six weeks of the expectant mom's due date. You can hold these affairs at someone's home, your church, a restaurant (but this will not allow a lot of socializing time), in a park or at a room you have rented for the day.

Newer traditions are those of themed baby showers. You can design the entire event around one theme. If the mom knows the sex of the baby then it is even easier to come up with a theme.

For girls of course the colors pink and purple, princess, animals, fairy tale, popular girls characters like Dora etc. Or ladybugs are just a few theme ideas.

For little boys think blue and pale green colors and for themes try one of these Noah's ark, space, cars, cowboy's, pirates etc. Let your imagination run wild.

If the sex is unknown then go for neutral colors such as yellow and green. A theme could be something that would be suitable for either sexes. Animals, ABC's and many others are themes you could use here.

Incorporate fun games for the shower such as baby bingo, guess moms belly size and win a prize, baby food name game, celebrity baby match game and more. You can think of lots of games that everyone would enjoy taking part.

All invitations need to be sent at least six weeks in advance to give people time to make necessary arrangements to attend. These can be ordered from a stationary store or to save some money made on your own computer at home. If all guests on your guest list have emails then save even more money by sending them invitations online.

The attending guests should all receive a small party favor to show your gratitude and love. These do not have to be fancy or expensive. Some ideas include baby shower chocolate kisses in tin, baby bottle filled with candy, Candles in the shape of a pacifier or baby bottle, personalized magnets, bookmarks, frames etc. These are just some, there are many others you could come up with yourself.

One of the important baby shower traditions is for the expectant mother to thank everyone by sending thank you cards after the shower This is a must as it is respectful. These should be sent to everyone who attended as well as anyone who sent her a gift.
