A Daddy Baby Shower - New Twist on the Old Baby Shower

Try something new, a Daddy Baby Shower. Even though no one would realistically expect a new daddy-to-be to sit around with his closest buddies, opening baby shower gifts and playing party games while oohing and aahing over the imminent birth of his child. That doesn't mean that Dad can't have a baby shower-type celebration. Daddy deserves to celebrate the birth of his child, too!

baby shower party favors

Of course, the term baby shower does invoke visions of baby themed parties. Like the one described above when planning a baby shower. So perhaps "baby shower" is not an appropriate name for this get-together. Why limit yourself with a label, anyway? Call it a "celebrating-Jim's-impending-fatherhood" party, if you want, instead of baby showers for dad.

BABY SHOWER

Here are a few suggestions to make this type of party one for daddy-to-be to remember:

Play Games:
Well, not baby shower games. But you can play poker, horseshoes or even a game of shirts-n-skins football in the back yard.

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry:
Have tons of fattening and not-good-for-you foods. Make spareribs, cheese steaks, wings, and anything else you can eat with your hands and make a mess with. The wives won't be there to complain and you can grunt all you want. Have some beers (or soda if you prefer) and barbecue.

Last Night Out:
Take the dad-to-be out for a night on the town to rival his bachelor party. Do some bar hopping, play some pool, shoot some darts, and don't go home until you are kicked out of at least three places. Keep Dad safe, though, and designate someone to stay sober and make sure everyone gets home in one piece. You might also want to check with mom-to-be to make sure she is okay with this plan. She is, after all, pregnant and might not be all that amenable to the last-night-out-before-fatherhood party.

Gifts for Dad-To-Be:
Let the official baby shower take care of the baby necessities. Give Dad gifts for himself, or gifts that he would have chosen for the baby. Buy him a diaper tool kit, complete with goggles, rubber gloves, tongs, clothespin, and of course, diapering essentials, or a Daddy Gear Diaper Bag.

Gag gifts are fun, too. Or you could buy clothing for the new baby with Dad's favorite sports team's logo or matching Dad and Baby t-shirts. Think about necessities like batteries, too. Most likely they won't be on Mom's registry, but all parents know that batteries are a hot commodity in any house with children. Be creative.

And don't forget that Dad might need some reading material to get himself up to date on the latest parenting trends. Consider getting him a book on fatherhood, funny or otherwise, or maybe a magazine subscription for daddy, such as American Baby Magazine.

Ask other new dads to think about what toys or objects were particularly helpful when their little ones were inconsolable, and either buy or recommend them for the times when dad-to-be is home alone with Junior.

Comfort Dad:
New Dads are usually pretty stressed out about what there life is going to be like after the new baby comes. Be prepared to have guests tell funny and helpful stories about their own experiences with becoming a daddy. Make it a point to reassure him that his wife is not really crazy, she is just hormonal and this, too, shall pass.

Remember, daddy baby showers don't have to be like the traditional shower, or even called a shower, but you can have one for dad just the same.

Best Baby Shower Games - Games Can You Play at Your Next Baby Shower - Part 2

Baby Shower hostesses have a lot of responsibilities when it comes to hosting the perfect baby shower. Now you can scratch "Finding the Right Baby Shower Game" off your list. Here are several games your can choose from:

baby shower diaper cake

Baby Diaper Name Tag Surprise - Before the shower, make little diaper name tags (cut out a triangle, fold the corners in, and fasten with a safety pin). On the inside of one, put a little brown spot with a crayon or brown marker. When the guests arrive, randomly pass out the tags for them to write their names on. At the end of the shower, everyone checks the inside of their diaper tag, and the guest with the brown spot wins.

BABY SHOWER

Guess the Number of Diaper Pins - Fill a baby bottle with diaper pins and have each guest guess the amount. The one closest to the actual number without going over wins. You can also fill the bottle with jelly beans, pennies, or just about anything. Don't forget that you actually have to count them.

Find the Safety Pins - The smaller the safety pin you use for this game, the better. Make some oatmeal and hide about 15 pins in it. One at a time, blindfold each guest and see how many she can find in one minute with her hands. For a less messy version of this game, use a bowl of uncooked rice instead of oatmeal.

Closest Birthday - The guest with closest birthday to the new baby's birthday wins.

Baby Picture Guess - Have guests bring baby pictures of themselves and post them on a board. Try to match up who's who. You can also send a self-address envelope along with the invitation for guests to mail their photos to you.

Blindfolded Task - One at a time, blindfold each guest and time them at performing Mommy tasks, such as dressing or diapering a baby doll, strapping a doll in a car seat, or breaking down a stroller. You could also have teams doing this all at once.

Mom's Circumference - Guess how many inches around the waist Mom-To-Be is. The one who's closest without going over wins.

Memory Game - For about 30 seconds, walk around the room with a tray full of small baby items (bottle, booties, rash cream, diaper, diaper pin, teether, pacifier, baby thermometer, nail clippers, shampoo, etc.). After you leave, have guests write down as many of the items that they can remember. The one with the most correct answers wins. Cute Variation: Trick your guests - Have the Mom-To-Be walk around with the tray and go into a back room with the items. Instead of guests guessing what was on the tray, inform them that they have to answer questions about the Mom (what is she wearing, what color are her shoes, how is her hair fixed, is she wearing earrings, etc.). Of course, Mom gets all of the items at the end of the game.

Baby Word Unscramble - First guest to unscramble your list of baby words wins. Examples are ABBY TOBLET = baby bottle; SPIDEAR = diapers, CERPFAII = pacifier, MARLFUO = formula; BRIC = crib, RELROLTS = stroller, TARELT = rattle, DRECAL = cradle, PYLA ENP = play pen, ESTIOOB = booties, LICOC = colic, NORNWEB = newborn

Baby Shower Clipart

When you throw a baby shower, it's really great to get a nice theme going. I find the easiest way to do this is to find some baby shower clipart that looks great, but isn't too complicated.

I take the clipart and then print it out in various sizes for how I want to use it. I can drop it off at the cake decorator's so that she can make me a cake with that pattern. Then, I email a copy to my husband's work so that he can print out a few copies in a larger format. These become cut outs that I place on the walls... almost like a logo.

BABY SHOWER

There are so many ways to use it... print on a brown paper and you can wrap coffee cups, print on regular or colored paper and then use scrapbooking die cuts to fancy up the edges for a doily effect, or, resize the clipart to small, convert it to a gray and print a repeating pattern on the paper which can even be used to wrap small presents, or as placemats, even origami!

Some people might shy away from clipart because they don't think of it, or they think it's too much work. If you find the clipart in a clipart book that will be too much work and it won't look good because you'll have to use a photocopier to resize it and then the quality degrades.

The type of clipart that I use is important for all of the different effects that I'm creating. It needs to be a vector drawing for sure, as non-vector drawings are bitmaps that don't resize nicely... they'll just get all bumpy and not look good. Also, I'm drawn to simply line art because if it's too complex sometimes it doesn't look as good in the different sizes. It's also good if it's a single color, usually black, because then I can change it to whatever I want quite easily just using simple graphics software. Just remember, simple is better, is cleaner, and usually creates a more sophisicated look.

Baby shower clipart is easy to find and use. Just be creative!

Baby Shower Party Decorations to Liven Up Your Baby Shower

An excellent source of information providing the perfect baby shower decorations and themes. Decorations and themes that are focused and timesavers for the host. Some low cost and effective shower decoration ideas.

baby shower

Decorations can be as modest or as extravagant as your budget and time allows. Literally there are a number of ways for decorating the shower. Balloons, cakes, table settings, along with wall and ceiling decorations. Decorations are an important part of any special baby shower.

BABY SHOWER

Fill a basket or small wagon with stuffed animals to be used as a centerpiece. You can also place teddy bears around the room along with some dolls and toys. Place them on tables, bookcases and peeking over lamps. Or set up a train on your table. Then fill the cars with small baby items such as teething rings, pacifiers, rattles, and booties.

Although the theme as well as decorations of modern showers have changed with the times, it is still traditional to the use the colors of the baby's nursery. You can decorate the nursery with fresh flowers, balloons and streamers.

As a general rule one should stick to the traditional ways of decorating. If you are going with the traditional party decorations, you would use china and silver. No doubt every shower needs some sort of decorations.

In baby showers it is not a necessity to use a lot of decorations. Just simple decorations would be sufficient if that is your desire, perhaps along with a few seasonal flowers and party toys.

If you do wish to celebrate the shower in a big way there are many party stores that carry large assortments of baby decorations such as storks, teddy bears and nursery rhyme characters.

These decorations can be placed anywhere and removed easily after the shower. You can give these to the expectant couple to take home after the party. Most of them can be reused for some other occasions such as a childs birthday party. One of these would be a baby diaper cake which has become very popular.

There are many more baby shower party decorations and themes. For instance, gather a bouquet of pink and blue balloons and tie them with pink and blue ribbons. You can attach them to a chair, or as the centerpiece containing baby's breath and greens.

Similarly, purchase a small umbrella and hang it upside down over the table. Maybe over where the mother-to-be will be sitting to open the baby shower gifts. Fill the umbrella with balloons and let ribbons or streamers hang over the edges.

Softly play light music or children's songs. You can also do mild lighting with small bulbs as used in Christmas tree decorations. If you know what names the parents have chosen, spell them out using wooden blocks or paper strips.

Summary of Decorating Ideas

Nursery Colors:
Use colors from the nursery for your theme. This option gives the flexibility to use any type of napkins, tableware, and party decorations for your party. You don't necessarily need to buy expensive party decorations with patterns, just use the same colors throughout.

Nursery Theme:
Similar to the nursery colors, but this one uses the actual theme of the nursery. Ask the mom-to-be what she plans for her nursery decor and go from there. If her decor is lace and cream, then keep to that same look and feel for the shower, using party decorations with that color and pattern.

Another important part is where you are actually organizing the baby shower. The location will help you determine the matching party decorations and themes. Whether your baby shower is in an elegant restaurant, a banquet hall or a warm cozy home. The right supplies and party decorations will add that extra finishing touch.

Pick a theme and carry it through with coordinating supplies and party decorations such as centerpieces, balloons, gifts and party favors. From invitations and games to cups, plates and napkins. These party supplies offer everything you'll need for the perfect baby shower.

A little bit of creativity and imagination will play a big role here. Good baby shower party decorations need not be very costly, but does require some effort and creativity. While choosing a baby shower theme or baby shower games remember to make them a good fit for all the baby shower guests invited. You also might want to offer the party winners little treats like candies and eclairs.

Wording Baby Shower Invitations For Baby Party

A certain turn of phrase will make the baby shower invitations sing - and capture the attention of potential guests. Baby shower wording ideas can come from just about any source, but mostly, the baby shower invitation wording for your baby shower should come from the heart.

Use of Baby Gender for Baby Wording

BABY SHOWER EVITES

The proper baby invitation wording can be gender specific or gender neutral. If the parents know the gender of their coming child, they could incorporate various phrases to indicate they're expecting a boy or a girl. "We're tickled pink she's having a girl," or "The princess is on the way, so come and celebrate her special day," are possible baby invitation wording. "The little prince is on the way, so come and celebrate his special day," and the traditional "Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of," are alternate shower invitation wording for moms expecting boys.

Shower wording ideas for the gender-neutral shower could include something like "We're all as happy as can be, Mommy and Daddy and baby make three," or "On the way is a bundle of joy, let's shower the brand new girl or boy."

Use of Shower Theme in Selecting Wordings

The shower invitation wording can even come from the theme of the event itself. If there is a star baby theme or a celestial theme, the baby showing wording verses could be "Twinkle, twinkle little star," or "When you wish upon a star." If the host has chosen bears, the baby announcement wordings could be "We are 'beary' excited to welcome a new bundle of joy," or "We can 'bearly' wait for the little one's arrival." Should the theme be ducks, the shower invite wordings, verses and sayings could be "We're so lucky, the new baby is just plain ducky," or "Someone is having a baby, isn't that just ducky?"

For the expectant mother of twins, some cute and creative baby invitation wording verses could be used. "Double the fun, double the love," "They've been blessed twice...it's twins," or "They're coming two-by-two, so much fun for me and you," are all possible baby wording ideas for the baby twin shower.

Wordings from a Poem or Children's Book

For the perfect baby invitations wordings, the host may even check with the expectant mom. The shower invite wordings, verses and sayings may come from a special poem or children's book that are important to the mom-to-be. If the host is stuck, doing a quick search of online shower stationery shoppes should provide some invitation wording ideas. Sometimes, brainstorming wording ideas with friends can also get the juices flowing and allow the host to create the perfect baby shower wording.

What to Include in the Wording, Sayings and Verses

No matter what cute wording verses are used, the important information must be included. The mother's name or the baby's name, if available; the date, location and time of the shower; the phone number for RSVP; and the registry information should all appear somewhere in the announcement.

With creative baby shower wording verses, the guests are sure to get a smile.

Baby Showers

Baby showers represent the joyous celebration of having a baby. Baby showers are the parties thrown for expectant mothers who are shortly expecting babies. They are generally non-relative in the sense they are usually given by friends or co-workers. Baby showers bring excitement along with loads of gifts for the baby as well as the mom-to-be as well as the people who throw the shower.

baby shower diaper cake

Baby showers need a lot of preparation. They should be planned as per the convenience of the expecting mom as well as the cultural and religious traditions of the family. Some cultures do not receive gifts until the baby is born. Some showers can also be planned after the birth of the baby as this enables the guests to have to look at the new born, though generally baby showers are thrown before the birth only. They are usually given 2-3 months before the delivery date.

BABY SHOWER

The exact date and the time can be planned as per the mother's requirements. The shower can be thrown in anyone's house (could be the organizers'), at a restaurant, at a reception hall, at an outdoor area like a garden or a park, or in the office. The guest list can be prepared after consulting the parents-to-be and can have the "Guest of Honor", who can be the grand-parents or God-parents. Baby shower parties can be based on a theme and they can also include interesting games like naming games and baby food games to make the party last for a couple hours. Baby shower favors are also given to all the guests who attend the shower. Baby shower gifts have to be very thoughtful and it is better to give items which would be useful for the mom or the baby.

Now a days, Co-ed baby showers, which include both the mom and the dad, are also very popular. Traditionally baby shower were held only for the first baby, but these days, baby showers are being held for succeeding babies as well. Baby showers for subsequent babies are known as sprinkles. They are generally useful if the second baby is not the same sex as the original child, or if there is a long time gap between the two babies, as the mother may not still have the original clothing and equipment. Baby showers can also be planned for adopted babies.

Couples Baby Shower Honors Both Mom and Dad

If having a Couples Baby Shower seems odd to you, consider this: Mom-to-be did not get pregnant on her own. Nor will she likely be raising the baby on her own. So why should she get to celebrate on her own?

baby shower invitation wording

Dad-to-be plays a very big role in the new baby's life so he should be a part of the baby festivities as well. A couples shower (also referred to as coed showers) doesn't just include dad-to-be in the honors. It also includes all of the other important men in the new baby's life.

BABY SHOWER

Grandfathers, uncles, cousins, and even godfathers will be able to join in a couples shower as well. Baby showers normally consist of cutesy decorations and silly games. But when you are having a couples shower, you will probably want to make a few adjustments. You still want to have baby decorations since it is a celebration of a baby at your couples shower. But you might want to refrain from using frilly decorations and lean more towards fun ones.

Cutting out the games may be a good idea for coed showers. Instead, give the male guests some screwdrivers and hammers. Then have them put together gifts such as toys and swings while mom and dad-to-be open the presents together.

If this sounds a little too stereotypical for you (me man, you woman, grunt, grunt). Then try playing games that both the men and women will enjoy at your couples shower. Have a contest to see who can drink a beer (or other carbonated beverage) out of a baby bottle the fastest.

Set up a large grid ahead of time with the dates of the month when baby is due. You can have guests write their name on the date when they think the baby will be born. The host or hostess can be responsible for sending a prize to the winner after the baby comes.

Another good idea for games for a couples baby shower is Pictionary. Make cards ahead of time with all sorts of baby items on them. Then use them for your home version of the popular game. Surely most of your guests will be able to draw "rattle".

But what about "messy diaper" or "nursing"? Prizes for games can be anything you can think of, but if you are going to spend money on them, you should try to have something your guests will want to use. Favors should also be something your guests will use as well as being gender neutral. Some favor ideas include personalized lollipops or candy tins, baby themed cookies, or the ever popular bubble gum cigars.

If you do not know the sex of the baby yet you can purchase favors in both pink and blue. Then guests choose the color based on what they think the sex of the baby will be. It might be fun to do a tally at the end of the shower just to see how many of the guests think it will be a boy and how many think it will be a girl!

Food is also an important part of a couples shower. Though appetizers and finger sandwiches may be appropriate for a regular shower you may want some heartier fare for the couples baby shower. By adding more substantial items to your menu you will be catering (so to speak) to your male guests' larger appetites.

One suggestion for a nice keepsake for mom and dad-to-be. Videotape wishes and tips for them. Ask willing guests to record a short greeting for the new parents (keeping it proper so Junior can watch it in years to come).

Also, don't forget to send the couples baby shower invitations.

Baby Shower Themes

Looking for baby shower themes? That must mean that you are organizing a baby shower for a friend or family member. You want this shower to be something really special - both memorable and fun. So here are a few ideas that we believe will help to make your baby shower a real blast:

baby shower favors

Party Ideas and Themes

BABY SHOWER

A Star is Born: Why not make the baby and its mom-to-be stars? If the baby has already been named, hang this name on a star background from the ceiling; decorate the room in silver and navy to represent the night sky; use star-shaped gift baskets and star ornaments.

An Outdoor Theme: If the sun is shining and the weather pleasant then head outside for some fun in the sun with this great outdoor party theme. Create toilet paper diapers and pop water balloons while guessing when the mother-to-be's waters will actually break. Then dig into some cool finger snacks, sweet treats and flavoured teas.

Peas in a Pod: Looking forward to twins, triplets or any other multiples? Then why not celebrate this with a "peas in the pod" party theme? Dress the mother-to-be in green (perhaps with a felt pea pod on her head); decorate the room in green and choose green foods; Then play "Guess how many jelly beans are in the jar", except substitute the jelly beans for peas.

Brainstorming Other Theme Party Ideas

Still need more baby shower themes? Just take some time to think about the mother-to-be - her interests, what she wants for her baby, how many babies she is expecting or how long she has taken to fall pregnant and you will probably be able to come up with many baby shower themes party ideas. For example, a mother-to-be who wants her child to love reading as much as she does would be a good candidate for a book-themed tea party. A sporty mother-to-be may appreciate a more active theme.

Create Party Invitations Online

Create party invitations online related to your baby shower themes and then send out emails for your guests to click through to this page and find details about the baby shower and perhaps even make a cash donation so that you can buy a nice, big present for the mom-to-be. You can do this by signing up for a free account at Events Listed Baby Shower Themes.

Baby showers are supposed to be fun and memorable for the mother-to-be as well as for all the guests. You should therefore come up with some creative baby shower themes ideas either by choosing one of the ideas above or by brainstorming what you think would suit the mother-to-be.
